Dr. Malchow attended Franklin Simpson High School and Murray State University prior to his enrollment at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Kentucky Dental School in 1972. Dr. Malchow then spent two years in the Dental Corps of the U.S. Navy. For his orthodontic training he returned to the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1976 with the Master of Science in Dentistry degree, which required original research and a thesis.

He has been a practicing orthodontist in Bowling Green since 1976. Dr. Malchow is a past president of the Pennyrile Dental Society and the Kentucky Association of Orthodontics. He has served as a part time faculty member at the University of Kentucky Graduate Orthodontic Program. He has also presented continuing education courses at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry regarding new techniques in functional appliance therapy.

Dr. Malchow's hobbies include running, golf, and piloting his airplane.
